Going to Church every Sunday, and being the son of an Orthodox Priest, has truly shaped my personal and professional life.

I can remember early on in my childhood learning about the significance of giving back to the community and serving the poor. For example, I can remember packing lunches for the salvation army, collecting boxes of food for families at Thanksgiving, wrapping gifts for children at Christmas, and having canned food drives at our church.

Later in life, right after getting married, my wife Shadia and I decided that we both shared the desire to give back to the community. In 2010 Shadia and I used a portion of our wedding gifts to start our first backpack feeding program at St. George Church in Bridgeville. Our first program started by feeding 50 people in the Hill District of Pittsburgh, PA. After this first backpack feeding program grew for a year, I was asked to join another organization here in Pittsburgh. As part of that organization I grew the backpack feeding program to include over 3,000 children, with 6 meals each over a weekend, in 31 Pittsburgh city school districts every week during the school year. I learned one thing during this 8-year effort… feeding students to improve learning needs to grow.

My passion for feeding children is the foundation for Feed Our Students. Our mission is simple; feed 1,000 students per week in the Western Pennsylvania region in our first year, and grow the program to feed 10,000 students per week by year two. With your help and support we can accomplish this goal by working together to impact childhood hunger and student learning in Western Pennsylvania.

Steven DelVitto graduated from Upper St. Clair High School in 2003, is a 2010 graduate of Robert Morris University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration, and lives in Canonsburg with his wife Shadia, son Jason, and daughter Eliana.

I remember witnessing Steve DelVitto at a pack for the first time.

He called me, at the suggestion of a friend, to talk about websites - that's how we met. He said he was having a pack at PNC Park to create backpacks of food for students. My suggestion was I'd just show up at this pack and then create a VideoStory. The intent at that point for me was to test new video technology my company was refining. So I went to the pack.

It was an inspirational experience. There were 150 volunteers packing pallets and pallets of shelf-stable food in an assembly line - actually 3 assembly lines each about 60 feet long. Steve trained people in less than 10 minutes and away they went. In 2 hours this group completed packing 2,500 packpacks, each containing enough food for 6 meals. Just to clarify, the food was placed in plastic bags not actual backpacks. It was obvious at this first pack that Steve had a unique skill that could impact a ton of young students. So I took a ride with Steve, so to speak, and donated 8 months of my time. It led us to where we are today, with our own non-profit organization based on Steve's skills at packing, and what I bring in terms of the internet & video marketing.

Simply put we're going to recruit corporate volunteers to pack backpacks and then record each pack as a multi-page VideoStory. That way people can see what we do, see what they did at a pack, and then share these VideoStories with friends and family.

I look forward to 2019 as Feed Our Students attempts to grow to impact 10,000 students weekly. Using the technology I've developed to help build an organization to feed students is an honor. I encourage you all to join in and contribute as well.
